About
Flux 4.0
Tourism today faces increasingly complex challenges – from overtourism and climate change to the rapid development of digital technologies and growing visitor expectations. Addressing these challenges requires a better understanding of tourism flows, timely information, and data-driven decision-making. Flux 4.0 responds to these needs by developing a new generation of digital solutions for sustainable tourism.
The project continues the journey that began in 2018 with Tourism 4.0 (TRL 3–6), the first research and innovation programme of its kind in Slovenia focused on data-driven tourism. Tourism 4.0, which evolved into an international partnership, laid the foundations for understanding the importance of data and digital innovation in tourism and inspired numerous new projects, research initiatives, and collaborations both in Slovenia and internationally. Flux 4.0 builds upon this vision and adapts it to the challenges and opportunities of today.
The project brings together leading Slovenian research organisations and companies in the development of advanced data models, digital twins, geoinformation systems, forecasting tools, and responsible artificial intelligence. A key outcome will be the establishment of the Flux 4.0 platform, integrating diverse data sources, advanced analytical models, and decision-support tools. Technology is not an end in itself, but a means of guiding tourism development in a way that prioritises the quality of life of local communities, environmental stewardship, and the long-term resilience of destinations.
